What to Do in Fishkill

Fishkill may not be huge, but it offers plenty of variety when it comes to recreation, history, and nature. Some favorites:

Housing & Market Snapshot

Price Trends & Market Conditions (Local Focus)

  • NYSAR / New York State: As of February 2025, the median sales price statewide rose from $378,000 to $436,125 (a 15.4 % increase year over year). Active listings are down ~5.3 % compared to last year, keeping supply very tight.

  • Dutchess County (proxy for Fishkill region): In July 2025, the median sold price was about $460,323, up 7 % year over year.  Roughly 52–53 % of homes sold above asking price, indicating strong buyer competition. Average days on market dropped to ~47 days, a faster pace compared to prior periods.

  • Inventory & market pressure: Active inventory in Dutchess County has contracted substantially. In late 2024, only ~431 single-family homes were on the market—down nearly 29 % year over year.

  • Interpretation / KCM lens: Observations consistent with what KCM often emphasizes—when inventory remains constrained in desirable areas, home prices tend to stay buoyant even if rates or macro conditions try to cool demand.

Types of Housing & Community Styles

In Fishkill you'll find several housing styles:

  • Single-family homes on varying lot sizes

  • Townhomes / condos (some newer construction)

  • Historic homes (colonial, Dutch colonial, farmhouses)

  • Newer subdivisions or planned communities

  • Mixed zones and in-town neighborhoods near Main Street

The diversity of housing types gives options for different budgets and tastes.

Community & Quality of Life

Fishkill offers a comfortable, community-oriented feel without being too remote. Residents often praise its balance of accessibility and privacy. Hudson Valley Magazine The town is also commuter-friendly, given its proximity to I-84, Route 9, and reasonable access to Metro-North via nearby stations.

On the flip side, traffic along Route 9 and the main connectors can get busy. Some parts of Fishkill require a car for errands or commuting, especially as public transit options are limited.
